BIOGRAPHY: Alan Hutchison, Report Writer and Editor

Dr Alan Hutchison is an NMAS accredited mediator specialising in workplace conflict resolution and commercial dispute negotiation.

Following a successful career as a manager and leader in the education field, Alan moved into other areas of professional expertise in freelance writing, editing and researching, as well as his core work in mediation.

He holds University of Melbourne doctoral level research qualifications in policy analysis and evaluation. He is a Fellow of the Australian Council for Educational Leaders and a Fellow of the Institute of Managers and Leaders.

He is a Board member and President-elect of the not-forprofit health promotion and peer support organisation Heartbeat Victoria, and a Committee member of the Victorian Association for Dispute Resolution.

In his previous and current roles Alan has vast experience in providing meticulous customer service. He combines an analytical mind with a warmth of manner and great empathy, readily winning the confidence and trust of clients.

 

He has built a strong reputation for inter-personal communication, steady and grounded judgment, commitment to ethical principles of fairness and confidentiality and an impeccable client service orientation. Applying the disciplined principles of mediation to the resolution of conflict is a responsibility to which Alan is highly committed and one which he finds very professionally fulfilling.

Alan is convinced of the unique power of mediation in uncovering the complexity of what lies beneath a workplace conflict, and enabling the parties to the dispute to fully express and explore their concerns while also becoming more open to one another’s perceptions and positions, as he solid basis for moving forward to an authentic and genuinely work able resolution.
